A Kentucky-based trucking company, has moved to Franklin and already has 100 employees. Hammond Transportation, Inc. transferred area operations from Industrial Drive in Portland, Tennessee to an existing building off Kentucky 1008 in north Franklin. (click on photo for larger view)

The company purchased and renovated a 10,000 square foot building on a 6.5 acre lot in to a trucking center with an office, maintenance garage and parking lot for their 80 tractor-trailer trucks. “Our major customers are in the Bowling Green, Franklin and Portland area. Our new facility in Franklin gives us tremendous access to customers throughout the mid south.” said Tony Hammond, owner of Hammond Transportation.

The company is based in Nicholasville, Kentucky and has two other satellite offices in Memphis, Tennessee and Georgetown, Kentucky. In all, Hammond Transportation employs 140 and has 120 trucks on the road. The new Franklin office is the company’s largest.

Tony Hammond started Hammond Transportation in 2001 with only three trucks. Ten years later they have over 100 trucks and are servicing customers in Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Ohio, and North Carolina. Hammond also indicated that he was looking to hire more drivers for his growing business. “We have an immediate need for 15 to 20 more drivers that would be based out of our Franklin, Kentucky location.” said Hammond

Potential drivers should have at least two years of experience and a commercial drivers license among other qualifications. Hammond said he was pleased with the attention and service he had received from local officials including, Realtor Ron Kirby, Jr., Dennis Griffin with the Franklin-Simpson Industrial Board as well as the Kentucky Department of Transportation.

Franklin-Simpson Industrial Authority Executive Director Dennis Griffin said the trucking company will have a huge impact on Franklin. “Hammond Transportation will not only employ 100 and probably more, but it also helps in our industrial recruiting efforts to have these kind of good service industries,” Griffin said.
